    CHAIR

Hashim Coates is a Denver native, U.S. Navy veteran, and longtime political strategist who has spent over a decade driving progressive change and empowering marginalized communities across Colorado. A proven leader and organizer, he is committed to advancing racial justice, LGBTQ+ equality, and economic opportunity through bold, grassroots action and effective policy advocacy.

A graduate of Metropolitan State University of Denver and a proud member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc., Hashim has led and advised successful campaigns for leaders such as Congressman Jason Crow, Attorney General Phil Weiser, CU Regent Wanda James, and Representative Steven Woodrow. He previously served as Executive Director of Black Brown Red Badged, where he championed racial equity in Colorado’s cannabis industry.

Though he did not win the primary, his campaign energized a diverse coalition and helped advance a bold, people-first vision for local government, encouraging people to live boldly and unapologetically.

He co-hosted the podcast Dope Black Thoughts and continues to be a leading voice for inclusive, transparent, and justice-centered leadership. Hashim believes deeply in one guiding principle: we belong everywhere decisions are being made.
